2.00pm - 4.30pm at Cocklawburn Beach car park where the ice cream van parks

Charles Lyell, the great Victorian geologist said that 'the present is the key to the past', by which he meant that through observing processes that happen now it is possible to understand how the rocks beneath our feet have moved. In this second trip to Cocklawburn beach we will be exploring in more detail what limestones are and what circumstances they may have formed under. One modern analogue is the Great Barrier Reef which is one of the biggest areas of limestone formation on the planet. What does this tell us about the limestones at Cocklawburn?

The walk will be approximately 4km and will involve scrambling across rocks on the foreshore. Please wear sturdy footwear and bring warm waterproof clothing.
